The time has come to reveal our entries for the Umbrella Prints Trimmings Competition 2013. Leah unfortunately wasn’t able to complete her entry in time but hopefully we will end up seeing a completed product.

My mum, Christine, did finish hers. You can now see where I get my crafty from. She is, after all, a retired art teacher, now having time to dabble in the crafts she loves. Paper is her thing at the moment, but when given the fabric pack, she put the paper away and this is the result. Crafting for me lately has been mainly dreaming about what I want to make rather than the actual making. Too much other stuff going on, house reno, more stress at the real job and school holidays always stuff the routine around. Hopefully it will all settle down soon and there will be more making going on.

While the sewing machine is packed away at the moment I did get a little hand sewing time in the past week. I bought a Mollie Makes mag (issue 23) a few weeks ago, as soon as my sons saw the front cover both of them wanted a fox each. So instead of just putting it off till the increasingly long make list is complete I decided to squeeze them in.I made from the pattern with the exception of using whip stitch to sew them together. They both came together really quickly, so if you need a quick gift, I recommend making them. They are now much loved .

This is a Pocket Clutch I have made with a pattern from Michelle Patterns. I’ve popped it in our online shop, so if you love a crafty gift but don’t have the time to make one, pop on over. Or pick up a pattern from Michelle and make one, she also has heaps of other fantastic patterns for Mums.

This one was my first trial. You can wear the zip hidden or reverse with it showing. I also added press studs for a different look. But I wasn’t totally happy with the finish and by having the studs it doesn’t make it adjustable.
But I do like the zip and the zipper pull is tucked under the overlap where it closes over.

This time I used Velcro for both the pocket and to close around the wrist which gives a bit of flexibility in sizing.

And this time the pocket can be reached from the top … Easier access?
So that my second try and I think I have one more I want to try.
Suggestions much appreciated, but please don’t ask me to make one to fit your phone !!!
Defeats the purpose just a tad!

First was some cute Owl Pouches. These have been a bit of a hit on Pinterest

They make great little gifts I’ve discovered my 6 year old has had a few party’s and I’ve popped some lip gloss in them for her to give. Too cute!

And the other item is kids Money Cuffs

Theses are pretty self explanatory , great for holding little important stuff, like canteen money ! I’m in the process of making adult ones for walkers and runners.

The fabric basket in the photo is one of many I am making for my craft storage. That’s what I’ve been making in previous posts, did you guess?

I had to buy more solid grey for the lining (was that a hint?), doesn’t warrant a photo, not that exciting. It was 325g.
So my fabric count is: -3746g – 325g = -4071g. I’m really hoping this project will end up weighing a lot!

This lot: fabric 725g, batting 1100g (this was the end of the roll and includes the cardboard tube. So once it’s finished I need to subtract that!)

-1921g – 725g – 1100g = -3746g and a very embarrassed Mandy! To the sewing machine…….
